Autumn 2019

Marguerite de Merode is an artist, using  photography, now engaged in the realisation of  an exhibition, « Livres au miroir » (« Books in the Mirror ») at the Bibliothèque Mazarine in Paris, with the support of its director, Yann Sordet,  through financing from Wendel Participations and the Wendel Group.

Showcased in the great galleries of the Bibliothèque Mazarine, the « Livres au miroir » exhibition will display the works that the artist intends to devote to 25 eminent personalities from the French-speaking world of culture and science in the Autumn of 2019 or in the Spring of 2020.

The artist will ask each one of them to indicate the fondamental book (novel, essay, story or piece of news) that changed their existence, accompanied by a short text justifying their choice (with a maximum of 400 words). For each of the personalities selected, the exhibition will associate this written testimonial to two photographs taken by Marguerite de Merode of a copy of the book indicated.

The « Livres au miroir » exhibition will represent the second chapter of a project launched in November 2017 with the exhibition entitled Libri allo specchio, hosted by the Biblioteca Angelica in Rome, which showed 25 eminent personalities from the Italian world of culture.

The personalities selected were chosen on the basis of their qualities and of the representativeness or originality of their contribution to research in the French-speaking world.
